Outstanding Member of the Year 2014 – Pete & Nita Harksell
Pete Harksell has been a ASA member since 1982, working with his father in his shop.
In 1991, Pete and Nita Harksell opened their own shop, Pete’s Auto Repair in Ferndale, Washington and joined ASA.
Pete’s Auto Repair has been a AAA Top Shop since 2008 and a AAA shop since 1992. They are a NAPA Auto Care Center through which Pete was awarded the Regional NAPA/ASE Technician of the Year Award in 1998/99 and again in 2014. Pete has been an ASE Master Tech for many years and is also a certified Parts Specialist and Service Consultant.
Pete & Nita have been very active in the Whatcom/Skagit until since joining ASA in 1992. They took over the annual “Lights-On” event in 2005. Pete was the Unit President for 1999/2000 and Immediate Past President 2001/2004. Nita was the Treasurer of this unit from 2001 until 2012. Nita has always been very active in planning the Whatcom/Skagit Christmas Parties too.
Pete has been active in the community. The Old Settlers Association from 1981 to 2014 and has held most of their officer positions, they put on the annual OSA Picnic celebration the last weekend of July. He is also in the Ferndale Kiwanis, again since 1981 and has held most of their offices. He was selected as their Member of the Year in 2010 and 2014. He is currently on the Ferndale Parks Board. He has been involved the Ferndale Chamber of Commerce for many years. He has been on their board for approx. 6 years, the last 3 on the executive board and now as the Vice President for 2015. He received their Business of the Year award in 2009 and Board Member of the Year in 2013.
Both Pete & Nita are very involved in their church, including volunteering their time to cook for the middle school and high school retreats/mission for many years. The last 2 years on Wednesday evenings they have been helping to keep up the church grounds as needed.
